Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity:

1.To present in-person Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) segment of Rural Community Engagement, one of the essential constituents of Social Work.

2.To understand problems of community related to hygiene and sanitation and to aware them regarding the same.

Summary/Description: Second Day of PRA is preferably centered around the idea of Thematic Mapping, preceded by a Transect walk carried out by Participants along with a local to understand the overall vitae of rural life. Based on transect walk a detailed map of village is made by Participants which incorporated elements like - community places including religious, commercial, sanitation places and local authoritative agency premise i.e. Panchayat, along with individual residential areas, farm lands etc. Participants made a vivid map with different colors each representing the mentioned above. The map was again viewed by another local named Ms Manoj Kumari to further contour the details. Later, Students carried out cleanliness drive with cooperation of locals.  The entire two day activity was finished by Participants by thanking the locals for their cooperation.

Outcome of Participatory Rural Appraisal -

  1. Being a syllabi component of Sociology and Social Work, students are mandated to understand Rural life in true sense which is sufficiently gained through this activity.
  2. It raised awareness among Participants related to problems at large faced by Rural groups and to further brainstorm the development plan for betterment of Rural lives.
  3. In addition to above, People of Neota get to learn about the government interventions like MUDRA YOJANA, Self Help Group, Janani Suraksha Yojana etc from the Participants.
  4. Participants engaged in cleanliness drive did volunteering work, along with sensitizing locals regarding importance of cleaning and awareness regarding Swachh Bharat.
