Objective of the workshop:

  • To acquire skills to think critically about artistic and creative interventions through craft waste material
  • To develop capacities to design, assess and facilitate creative projects

Summary/Description:

Plastic Pollution is affecting the whole earth, including mankind, wildlife, and aquatic life. With an objective to make everyone realize the harmful impact it has on our lives and urge them to adopt a plastic-free life style, the Fashion Design & Textiles Guild committee of the IIS (deemed to be University), initiated the campaign ‘Say No to Plastic’ on 10th March 2023.  Dr. Sunetra Datt, Sr. Assistant Professor was a resource person of the Activity.

The activity focused on using materials like old t-shirts/ bags and using leftover fabric which are a waste in our day to day, used in a constructive manner and to design and create a variety of products. The activity displayed creativity and developed sense of love for environment. This activity helped to enhance not only creativity and presentation skills of the student-teachers but also helped them to realize the importance of recycling and reusing waste material available to them.

Outcome of the workshop:

Students gained knowledge and obtained skills about using the waste material for new product development.

Name of the activity: Ban on Single Use Plastic

Objective of the activity: To make Students aware about the hazards due to plastic and suggest alternatives of Single Use Plastic.

The main focus of this activity was to create awareness towards the hazards caused by plastic and suggest alternatives which are biodegradable in nature and can be recycled/reuse for futher use. Office bearers initated the activity and discussed with students on how to make pouches with  sustainable cotton and weaved pouches with plastic so that it can be used.

The presentation on ban of single use plastic was presented by Krati Modi and Saloni Gupta to aware students about the same. Some alternatives of the plastic products were suggested and 

product manufacturing demonstration  were given by Kumodini Rajawat and Mansha Jain.

             

Students were taught different parts of handloom and how a fabric is made on it through yarns also fabric quilted pouches with zippers were demonstrated.

The students were very excited to convert their innovative ideas into reality!
